Power has become one of the key points in data centre co-location, even more so than space. Power in the UK datacenter's is often at a premium.
We have 100s of clients with power requirements ranging from 1/2 amp to 64 amps. We have located some of the helpful sites and online information to help you calculate your server and rack power usage in a datacentre. The information below and online calculators should help you to calculate how much power you require for your equipment in the UK, the calculations are based on AC 240V single phase. We specialise in maximising and providing high power solutions. Should you require further advice, please feel free to contact one of our sales consultants.

Advice
One of the most expensive costs on a server is the power usage over time. It is worth paying more initially as it will generally save you money within the first 12 months. We recommend not to use old style servers as the Dell SC1425, these are very power hungry for the processing power.
Use servers based on processors such as Core 2 Duo, Dual Core or Althlon 64 X2. These will keep your racks cooler and enable you to fit more servers in your colocation space. Your return on investment (ROI) will be covered within the first year. The Dell 860 is currently a good low end option with only 0.6amps of power usage.

Heat Considerations
Heat is becoming one of the major deciding factors. The datacentre may be able to cool a 16 Amp (4 kW) or 32 Amp (8 kW) rack, but if the equipment placed in the rack is not setup correctly, it will still overheat and cause equipment failure. The same applies to smaller spaces such as quarter racks.
We can work with you to advise how you use the correct equipment and the correct layout to meet your requirements and prevent expensive future costs from equipment failure.
We will also ensure you are placed in the correct facilities for your requirements.
