Operating Systems
C4L provide the latest Windows and Linux operating systems, offering flexibility within your virtual private server requirements. We can provide a number of installation disc images that you can mount on an empty server container in order to build your server to your precise configuration requirements. These images include the following operating systems:
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition
The latest revision of Microsoft's server operating system. Ideal for running ASP.NET web sites, Microsoft SQL Server driven database applications or even Microsoft Exchange server messaging and collaboration server.
Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition
The previous major release of Microsoft's server operating system. If you need to run an application that is not supported on the latest release, this may be a preferred choice of operating system. Microsoft have announced extended support continuing until 2015 for this product.
Debian GNU/Linux 5
A very popular and long-standing Linux distribution well known for its strict adherence to free software philosophies. Unlike many other Linux distributions, this free distribution is not backed by a commercial entity and is supported by donations through several non-profit organisations.
Ubuntu 10 Server
Based on the Debian Linux distribution, this operating system has its primary focuses in the areas of usability and ease of setup. The distribution comes in both desktop and server editions, with the desktop edition often cited as being the most popular desktop Linux distribution currently in use.
CentOS 5
Based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, this operating system centres around removing the upstream vendor's branding while preserving as much of the structure as possible in order to maintain maximum compatibility with it. Those familiar with Red Hat Enterprise Linux should find this to be a familiar environment.
FreeBSD 7
A free Unix-like operating system whose origin stems from AT&T UNIX, making it one of the most mature distributions still being actively developed today. It is generally regarded as a very reliable and robust operating system, and sees a lot of behind-the-scenes use within many large enterprise network environments.
You are able to select the image from which to boot, and install the operating system as you would on a physical machine. Alternatively, you may choose from out catalogue of pre-built server images in order to deploy more rapidly.
